Security guard licence training

We are building an Ontario basic security guard training programme for people who want to get licensed and start working. It is in development now and will open once it has been through the required approval process.

What we are building

Training that leads to a job

In Ontario, working as a security guard requires a licence, and getting one requires completing the mandatory basic training and passing the provincial test. Plenty of providers will sell you the course. Far fewer can put you on a site afterwards.

Praxon is an active security agency staffing real posts across the GTA, so our programme is being written by the people who supervise those posts — and graduates will be first in line for openings with us. The course content is complete and the programme is going through the approval process required before it can be delivered.

To be clear about where this stands: the programme is not yet approved and is not being sold. Nothing is being taken and no enrolment is open. Register below and you will hear from us the day it is.

What it will cover

The provincially mandated syllabus

Ontario sets the curriculum for basic security guard training. Our programme will deliver it in full, plus the practical site knowledge that the syllabus does not reach.

  • 01

    Introduction to the security industry

The role of a security guard in Ontario, and the difference between what a guard may do and what people assume they may do.

  • 02

The Private Security and Investigative Services Act

The legislation that licenses you, the code of conduct it holds you to, and the obligations that come with the licence.

  • 03

    Basic security procedures

Patrol, access control, observation, note-taking and the reporting that makes an incident defensible afterwards.

  • 04

Legal authorities and use of force

Arrest authority, trespass, detention and the strict legal limits on a private security guard's powers.

  • 05

    Communication and de-escalation

The skill that resolves most incidents on a real site, taught properly rather than as a single slide.

  • 06

    Emergency response preparation

Fire, medical and evacuation response, and working alongside emergency services when they arrive.

  • 07

    Emergency first aid

The certification required before a licence can be issued in Ontario.

  • 08

    Test preparation and next steps

Preparation for the provincial test, and help with the licence application itself.
